I am a city on the east side of San Francisco Bay in Northern California. To my north is Berkeley, home to the famous university campus (University of California, Berkeley). To my west is San Francisco, across the Bay Bridge. One of the three major shipping ports on the US West coast, The Port of Oakland, is on my west side.
I am the county seat of Alameda County. In 2000, I had a population of 399,484.
As of 2004, my mayor is Jerry Brown, a former governor of the State of California. In me you can find the Oakland Museum, the Paramount Theater, a wonderful Chinatown, Jack London Square, Lake Merritt, and the Oakland/Alameda County Coliseum (who would dream of calling it Network Associates Coliseum?), home to the Oakland Raiders, the Oakland A's, and the Golden State Warriors.
