What are they DOING on Park Blvd?
For the past 6 months (at least), the stretch of Park Blvd between Leimert Ave and Mountain Blvd has had some kind of construction going on, with the road reduced to one lane each way.
What are they doing, and why is it taking so long? I can't find any information about it online (I put "Oakland California Park Blvd sidewalk repair 2011" into Google, but didn't find anything useful).
Anyone have information, or a suggestion on where I might find some info? This stretch of road is on my daily commute route and I'd like to know how long it will be disrupted.

Zombie Crawl To Save Oakland Library
[reposted with permission from the SaveOPL Facebook page]
I write to you today not as a representative of the library, but as a private zombie. I am a life- *and* un-life-long resident of Oakland. I love our beautiful city and its juicy, juicy brains.
The Oakland Public Library is in grave danger. Scenario A of Mayor Quan's recent budget proposal would, as of July 1, close 14 of Oakland's 18 libraries: Asian, Brookfield, Chavez, Eastmont, Elmhurst, Golden Gate, Lakeview, Martin Luthe...r King, Melrose, Montclair, Piedmont, Temescal (including the Tool Lending Library), West Oakland, and AAMLO. For the remaining libraries, there would be no children's services, no programming, and no new books or movies. (See www.saveoaklandlibrary.org for more information.)
While the zombie community would applaud the closure of the Tool Lending Library, which puts excellent zombie-killing tools such as drills, chainsaws, and large heavy shovels directly into the hands of the public, we are APPALLED by the potential closure of Oakland's branch libraries.
Libraries provide books, free of charge, to ALL people. Libraries help Oakland's living grow huge, delicious, tasty brains.
ZOMBIES NEED BRAINS. LIBRARIES FEED BRAINS. ZOMBIES SUPPORT THE OAKLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY.
If you, too, are undead and enraged about the proposal to close 14 Oakland libraries, JOIN US tonight, Saturday, May 21, when the zombies descend on Murmurama and march---slowly but determinedly---in support of OPL!
--Show up at 20th and Telegraph at 7:30pm in your zombie finest. Makeup (to enhance your gruesome state of decay) and your best, most ragged clothing are encouraged.
--Bring signs to carry that the living can read. Some suggestions: "ZOMBIE NEED BRAINS, KEEP LIBRARIES OPEN;" "ZOMBIES SUPPORT THE OAKLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY," "A BRAIN FOR EVERY CHILD."
--Shortly after 7:30, we will begin our SHUFFLING MARCH* up Telegraph Avenue. It's Murmurama; Oakland's Uptown galleries will be open and hosting special events, so the living will be present in full force to attend our message. (Stay after for a snack!)
--Hand out Save Oakland Library flyers, which will be available at the starting point, to the living along the way (they make convenient napkins for later!)
--Once we've crawled and moaned our way up Telegraph Avenue to 26th Street, we will have a chant, then you are free to disperse and enjoy Murmurama. There will be music, lectures, art, wine-tasting---all with tender, juicy-brained humans watching! If they ask you why you look like a zombie, please take a moment to explain the threat to Oakland libraries before you devour them.
Come one, come ALL! Zombie children are welcome! Our public libraries make life worth not living! KEEP OAKLAND'S BRAINS DELICIOUS! SAVE THE LIBRARY! http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=168029939924730#!/event.php?eid=168029939924730 Current Mood: exanimate

Some keys on my laptop keyboard fell off (the keys are lost now but the keyboard still works) so I need to replace the keys/keyboard. The laptop isn't under warranty. I have checked on Yelp and found a few places that could replace my keyboard but I thought I'd ask this community as well. Any suggestions as to where I should take my laptop to? I'm located in Oakland but could go to Berkeley or SF too. Thanks!

I booked a 7 AM flight from Oakland on Saturday. Little did I know, until just now, that the BART doesn't start running until 6 on Saturdays. That is too late... I moved here fairly recently and have no friends, so pestering a friend to take me to the airport before the crack of dawn unfortunately is not an option. What would be the cheapest alternative? I live in Lafayette.
Thanks in advance.
I need a recommendation for a chiropractor that's within walking distance from 12th St BART (and therefore near work).
Thanks in advance!

Why the hell do people think it's a great idea to do road construction and use a jackhammer at 6:30 in the morning. I thought the Recycle people were up early.
Why won't this town let me get some sleep?
Is it just me?

Essex Street Hot Tubs
I have a code to the Essex tubs, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to contact the owner? Nothing major, but I did have some questions. Thanks in advance.

Where to buy an inexpensive field hockey stick in Oakland?
Got any recommendations for used or inexpensive sporting goods suppliers in Oakland who might carry field hockey sticks? (Berkeley or SF — or really, anywhere BARTable — would be okay, too.)
I'm looking for a field hockey stick to use as part of a Halloween costume. Because it's for a costume and I don't actually play field hockey, I'd rather not spend much money on it. The cheapest new ones I've found online seem to start at $30.

Do you know me? Please help!
My husband and I found a buff colored, older female dog wandering in traffic on 14th Ave, right near Highland Park Hospital. She seems shaky on her legs, and possibly somewhat disoriented.
She has thick fur, like a chow, and weighs maybe 85 ish pounds.
She has a rabies tag, and a red fleur de lys tag that might have once had her name on it.
I know this is someone's baby - and they are wondering where she is. Please help if you can.
help me find my home!
